DESCRIPTION:Springfield's St. Patrick's Day Parade committee is pleased to 
 announce the continuation of a popular event for this year's downtown cele
 bration.  \n\n \n\nThe FIFTH annual IRISH IDOL contest will be held on the
  Square beginning at 11:30 a.m. the day of the Parade.  This year's parade
  will be Saturday\, March 13. Contestants are encouraged to perform songs 
 with an Irish theme or origin.  Contestants must provide their own backup 
 music.  A PA system and CD player will be provided.  Contestants will be j
 udged on stage presence\, originality\, musical talent\, and how much fun 
 they are having.  The contest is for AMATUERS ONLY.  There is no entry fee
 .  A $100 prize and a special ride in the parade will be awarded the winne
 r.  The winner will also present their winning performance at the awards c
 eremony immediately following the parade. Last year's Irish Idol was Mr. N
 athan Olson.\n\n\n\nEnter the 30th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade! \n\nWi
 n cash prizes of $500\, $250 or $100! Pre-parade activities begin at 11am 
 with the parade starting at 2pm on Commercial Street and ending at Park Ce
 ntral Square.\n\n\n\nRegistration is free\, but all participants must pre-
 register.  Prize categories this year include best Irish family\, best ind
 ividual costume\, best Irish pet\, best float\, best musical entry\, best 
 youth entry\, and more.\n\n \n\nPersons wishing to enter the contest or pa

 hael Connor-Scarteen\, Grand Marshall of the 30th Annual St. Patrick's Day

 er plate Irish dinner will help defray the expenses necessary to bring thi
 s prominent son of Ireland to Greene County. Seating is limited. Please ma
